A INFLUÊNCIA DA VITAMINA D NA DOENÇA PERIODONTAL

Resumo

A Vitamina D, ou calcitrol (forma ativa) é um hormônio esteroide que tem como principal função a regulação da homeostase do fósforo, cálcio e também atua na formação e reabsorção óssea. Conhecida popularmente como vitamina D, pode se apresentar de duas formas, sendo D2 (ergocalciferol), cujas fontes são bem restritas e D3 (colicalciferol) forma ativa, que tem como molécula de origem o colesterol, sintetizados na pele através dos raios UVB e também advindos de algumas fontes naturais. Cerca de 30 a 50% da população apresentam níveis baixos de vitamina D no organismo, tal deficiência se observa não somente em pacientes com baixos níveis de densidade óssea, mas também em pacientes com doenças crônicas e inflamatórias, como é o caso da doença periodontal; que agride o periodonto, sendo este, a estrutura de suporte do elemento dentário. Este artigo é uma revisão de literatura que tem como objetivo a análise do papel da vitamina D na homeostase do cálcio no organismo e suas propriedades anti-inflamatórias correlacionadas com a patogênese da doença periodontal.
